When husbands and wives do not let their opposing opinions create hostility and bitterness in their marriage, Greatness will happen in their marriage.

Consider the following passages of scripture that will help your marriage grow as you apply this principle in your marriage

Ephesians 5:33 (ESV) – However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Philippians 4:6 (NASB) – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Colossians 3:8 (NASB) – But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

Colossians 3:12-13 (NASB) – 12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

A Brief Application

Did you know that you will not always agree with your spouse’s point of view?  This is normal and okay for any healthy marriage. However, it is neither healthy nor okay to let the opposing ideas and opinions that you both have, create hostility and bitterness within your marriage. God wants you and your spouse to work towards being in harmony with each other.

When your viewpoints begin to clash with your spouse’s point of view, instead of thinking you will have to battle it out to get your point across or accepted, think about the balance that each opinion brings to the area under discussion. When you and your spouse are willing to pray and listen to each other’s viewpoint with an open mind instead of fighting, scheming, and demanding your way; the potential for a more satisfying outcome becomes greater. So, the next time you and your spouse have a competing point of view, keep this one thing in mind; Your spouse’s viewpoints are just as important as yours, so please do not discount the importance and validity of their point of view in order to push yours to the top.

Move Your Marriage to Greatness with intentional actions that are kind, loving, and respectful.

Meditate on the following scripture

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) – Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

May we see our opposing opinions as two good opinions that can be intertwined into one great plan.
